Justin Bieber’s Mysterious DMX Post Fuels Fan Concerns and Curiosity
Justin Bieber once again proved that he can keep fans and media on their toes with his Instagram posts. On Sunday, the 31-year-old pop star reposted an old video featuring rapper DMX from the season five episode of Iyanla: Fix My Life and left many to wonder if this is his way of publicly giving a message about drugs.
In the minute-and-a-half-long video, the late rapper is seen sitting across from motivational speaker Iyanla Vanzant as she questions if he truly wants to be sober. “No weed, no drinking, nothing? Why would I?” DMX says bluntly. When she pressed on that being sober would make one a “clear, pure vessel for the voice of God,” the rapper shot back, “I think I’m exactly where I need to be with God.”
As of press time, Bieber hasn’t given any explanations for the video post. He just shared the Instagram video as is from a Los Angeles cannabis dispensary account called Gassy. Fans and media houses took to their respective social media pages to express their thoughts about Bieber sharing such a controversial post without any commentary. While some users thought it was the singer’s way of giving his views about marijuana, others took it as an attempt to make a point about sobriety, freedom of choice, and religion.
This post is nothing new for Bieber, as in the past, the singer has never shied away from getting personal about his struggles and faith journey. He has often spoken about how he turns to God for strength and guidance. In the past, he has also talked about his strong connection with Churchome, a community led by Churchome pastor Judah Smith.
Fans’ Perception, Recreational Marijuana Use, and a New Chapter in Music
The post has also left some fans scratching their heads due to his relatively more relaxed view about recreational marijuana. In recent months, he has been seen with bongs and visible smoke puffing on his posts, but, well, it should be noted that using cannabis is legal in California, the state Bieber resides in with his wife, Hailey Bieber, and their newborn son Jack Blues Bieber.
While the social media platforms are all abuzz with their conjectures about the post, a rep for Bieber denied earlier this year that the pop star is abusing any illegal drugs. In a February statement to TMZ, his rep was quoted as saying, “The recurring narrative that Justin is using hard drugs is not true.” The rep added that Bieber was “in one of the best places in his life.” It also mentioned that he was in “the best mental space he’s been in a very long time,” devoted to his role as a father and making music.
The rep also went on to say that the singer was in “the process of an entire life transformation” for the past year. “This involved moving on from friendships, relationships, and business partnerships that no longer served his life and allowed him to live in an authentic place,” the rep was quoted as saying. It appears that this “transformation” is reflected in his new music.
On July 11, Bieber released his new album, Swag — his seventh album to date — much to fans’ amazement and approval. This record is a collection of songs about his growth as a man and his love for his wife and newborn son. It also talks about his insecurities, especially as a father and a person in the limelight. In what was unexpected to many, the singer also included comedic interludes featuring social media personality Druski on the album.
Dressed in a therapy couch setup, Druski and Bieber are in conversation about the singer’s choices and realizations. The jokes on this record are often dark, making it hard to keep a straight face while listening. He included this because it served as a way for him to laugh at himself and as an emotional outlet as well.
Whether he is coming full circle or just adding some lightness to his album, Swag is Justin Bieber’s most introspective work to date. As such, there has been a new call from fans asking for Bieber to come out on a tour to support his new release.
The rep didn’t confirm any tour details, but there was a leak earlier this month about the pop star having plans to hit the ground in Australia. However, Rolling Stone reached out to Frontier Touring, but they said, “We have no information about the artist regarding tour dates.”
His last world tour, Justice, was meant to have a full run around the globe in 2022, but it was suspended halfway due to the singer’s “medical needs” at the time. However, fans of the artist are holding on to hope that this time, his shows won’t be disrupted. With a new album under his belt, an even more focused eye on family, and a better understanding of himself, Justin Bieber would do well to launch on a world tour that will have fans as excited as this new body of work has made them.
Whether this was a statement or a post that he found striking at the time, one thing is certain with Bieber. It seems the Canadian artist has managed to create a media buzz with an Instagram post, while at the same time, he has also become more intentional about his life and career than he has ever been.
