Jurassic World Rebirth Combines Covert Ops with Dinosaur Chaos

Universal Pictures has dropped the official final trailer for Jurassic World Rebirth in time for its Fourth of July opening weekend. Due in theaters on July 2, 2025, Jurassic World Rebirth is a new start for the franchise with new characters and a revamped mission, while also harkening back to familiar territory with a return to the original Jurassic Park island and new and returning stars. Leading the cast are Scarlett Johansson, Mahershala Ali, and returning director Gareth Edwards.

Jurassic World Rebirth is the fourth Jurassic World movie and the seventh entry in the larger Jurassic Park franchise, which began with Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park in 1993. This time, Gareth Edwards returns to direct after steering the monster movie revival with 2014’s Godzilla. The screenplay is by David Koepp, a previous Jurassic Park writer who penned the original movie and the direct sequel, The Lost World, in 1997.

In the official synopsis, the film takes place five years after Jurassic World Dominion, which found the dinosaurs being rapidly weeded out of the global ecosystem. In Rebirth, the dinosaurs have been cornered into isolated belts of land and sea near the equator, which allows them to exist in makeshift versions of their original habitats. According to the trailer, in one such tropical island biosphere, the largest dinosaurs in their respective land, sea, and air categories all reside, and they are hiding a secret genetic code that contains a life-saving drug.

Jurassic World Rebirth stars Scarlett Johansson as Zora Bennett, a former special forces agent who has gone to work as an expert on covert operations. She assembles a team to attempt a top-secret extraction of the drug’s genetic code from the dinosaurs on the island. That plan then goes sideways when a family on a summer boating trip suddenly loses their lives in an attack by one of the dinosaurs. The survivors end up shipwrecked on a long-abandoned island with a secret, previously unknown Jurassic Park research station. The trailer promises that these human-made secrets are just as dangerous as the dinosaurs themselves.

New Jurassic World Movie Stars

Jurassic World Rebirth boasts a strong cast of new and returning actors. In addition to Johansson and Ali, the film also stars Rupert Friend as Martin Krebs, a pharmaceutical company representative with a shadowy past; Jonathan Bailey as Henry Loomis, a paleontologist; and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Reuben Delgado, the patriarch of the shipwrecked family. Luna Blaise, David Iacano, and Audrina Miranda play Delgado’s children, while Bechir Sylvain is another member of the mission team. Ed Skrein and Philippine Velge also appear in the film in unspecified roles.

Very little footage from the previous trailer was used in this one, released back in February. This gives filmmakers a chance to re-use the previously released material for the big moment and emphasizes several other aspects instead, such as the vast scale of the locations and a more traditional action movie setup. That begins with a moment from a lab, where one of the workers is trapped with a dinosaur and in need of help. Said worker ends up in a Plexiglas box in front of an agitated T-Rex, screaming for help from him and his coworkers. It’s immediately clear that this is going to be a more high-octane action flick with higher stakes, split-second timing, and, of course, more instances of sheer terror.

Jurassic World Rebirth offers some other nice teases of the big set pieces, such as a staged robbery of a pterosaur egg that one character immediately dubs as “a flying carnivore the size of an F-16.” The trailer also shows the now iconic, engineered raptors and a new sea-based predator, the mosasaur. From what is said in the trailer, this island was used as an intentional dumping ground for “the worst of the worst,” or the most aggressive dinosaurs that could be cloned.

Jurassic World Rebirth has all of the basic tenets that have become part of the Jurassic Park DNA. A first-class A-team is assembled to work outside of the law to accomplish an incredibly important goal, but there are moral gray areas that cannot be overlooked in the process. The technology has outpaced current understanding, and everyone’s morals are severely tested in the process. This Jurassic Park iteration then has to learn that no amount of containment and power is going to keep dinosaurs under control. In other words, despite its focus on new beginnings, this trailer suggests Rebirth is more Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom 2.0.

Jurassic World Rebirth: Final Trailer

The action starts immediately in the trailer and never lets up. There are several exciting scenes of characters trying to escape via their wits as dinosaurs attack them in several wildly different environments. Johansson, in particular, is expected to be allowed to flex more of her action hero muscles than has been previously afforded to her in the franchise, with scenes of her leaping through a jungle in heels or diving into a sunken shipwreck to survive.

Jurassic World Rebirth will open in theaters on July 2, 2025, just in time for the long holiday weekend.
